Preakness Volunteer Fire Co #4
Wayne Fire Department
2026 is looking to be a very busy year for our company. We've had over 265 calls thus far, including a major structure fire on January 25th. Since we're still experiencing low temperatures at night, please remember to keep safety in mind:
If you want to warm up your car or truck, NEVER do so in the garage, especially with the garage door closed! It may seem like common sense not to do this, but sometimes people are in a rush and forget. A vehicle idling creates carbon monoxide, which can get to dangerous levels in just 2 minutes, even with the door open. Pull your vehicle out of the garage immediately after starting it!
When charging anything with Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries - toys, laptops, or tools - NEVER leave them alone or charging overnight! These batteries have the potential for thermal runaway, causing fires if damaged, overheated, or overcharged.
